Troxell, softball team look to make push to playoffs

Delaney Troxell had been there before. In fact, she was there twice.

Against Salisbury, Monday, the junior hurled her third career perfect game, shutting out Salisbury, 15-0, in a shortened five-inning contest.

Troxell struck out 10, notching her 100th of the season. She added two hits and an RBI in the victory. She earlier twirled a complete-game, perfect game against Executive Education in a 10-0 victory April 12. After the game, Troxell had 108 strikeouts for the season.

She didn’t see any differences from two weeks ago.

“There wasn’t anything different from my first complete game this year,” said Troxell. “I went into the game like any other normal game.

“I knew I was going to get my 100th strikeout, but minus that, nothing was different.”

Troxell knew she couldn’t do it alone.

“My fielders have been doing a great job defensively and fielding everything in front of them,” said Troxell. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without them.”

Head coach Paige Kogelman has watched Troxell continue to develop and evolve.

“Delaney has been a leader from the circle since she has been here,” said “She always has strived for perfection, and she has reached that level a few times. Delaney is a great leader by example.”

The win snapped a two-game losing streak, as they recently dropped games to Palisades (9-3) and Northern Lehigh (9-8). Before that, the Rough Riders posted a dominant 12-1 victory over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

With the victory, Catty raised its overall mark to 6-8. They have six games left on their docket that began with Southern Lehigh Wednesday and moved on to Palmerton Friday. Catty began the season with a 2-4 mark.

The Roughies are trying to get back to the district playoffs for the first time since 2015, and Troxell sees her team coming together for a stretch run.

“We are definitely gaining momentum. Our defense and offense have been improving and are continuing to improve everyday.”
