The Freedom girls lacrosse team is hoping they can peak at the right time and they seem to be finding a groove as we head down the home stretch of the regular season.
The Patriots (7-5) have won three of their last four games, including an 8-7 victory over Emmaus last week, to push them one win away from clinching a district playoff berth.
Knocking off Emmaus (10-3) was arguably the biggest win of the season for the Pates, who saw their duo of Paige Jenkins (three goals) and Paige Telatovich (two goals) spearhead the team to victory.
“That was a huge win and confidence booster for our team,” said head coach Charis Innarella. “We are in a position where we control our own destiny in the last four games of the season.”
Paige Jenkins reached 100 goals two weeks ago and Paige Telatovich recorded her 200th career point recently. Sophomore goalkeeper Arianna O’Keefe is nearing 200 career saves as well.
Freedom has two contests this week against Parkland (5-6) and Nazareth (5-7), as they aim to clinch a postseason berth this week.
“We need to keep working on our fundamentals,” said Innarella. “Defensively we need to communicate and play clean and aggressive as a unit. We have been strong in goal. Staying connected on the field playing as a team will be crucial to our success. Good things happen when you work hard and never give up.”
Liberty (2-10) could grab some wins this week when they face Saucon Valley (3-5-1) and Northampton (1-12) on the docket.
