Moravian University senior sprinter Helen Davis (Whitehall HS) has been selected as the Landmark Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Davis was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash at the Coach Pollard Invitational in a school record, Landmark Conference record and All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying time of 12.12 seconds. Davis was also part of Moravian’s winning 4x100-meter relay in an AARTFC qualifying time of 47.80 seconds.
“We’ve known Helen can reach this level all year,” stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. “We started to see her turn the corner with the last 30m of her 100 at Muhlenberg a few weeks ago when she was able to maintain her mechanics later into the race than she had been. Incrementally, she’s been improving each week with her double at Lehigh’s meet, to a strong time into the headwind last week at West Chester, to ultimately having a breakthrough, school record performance on Saturday.
“As long as she stays healthy through the remainder of the year, we think she can be an enormous key to our 4x100 relay’s chances of getting to NCAAs, and she’s setting herself up to get there as well with the huge jumps she’s making well before she’s even peaked yet,” finished Baumann.
The Greyhounds are set to return action on Friday, April 28 at the Penn Relays with Davis running as part of the sprint medley relay at 6:05 p.m.
