Hokendauqua: Recycling, shredding event set

Whitehall will be holding an electronics recycling and document shredding day behind Whitehall-Coplay Middle School 9 a.m.-1 p.m., or until the trucks are full, May 20. The event is for township residents only.

You must stay in your vehicle and have exact change or a check, made out to Responsible Recycling Services, ready. An envelope is preferred.

Some items can be recycled for free, while others have a charge. If dropping off documents for shredding, there is a limit of 10 boxes.

This year’s free annual fishing derby is planned for 9 a.m.-noon May 27 at Hokendauqua Park and Playground, 3417 Lehigh St., and is open to children 15 years old and younger. Registration is 8-8:45 a.m.

More than 150 trout will be stocked. There will be first-, second- and third-place awards in four age groups: 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15. A prize will also be awarded to the overall biggest fish.

You must bring your own bait and tackle.

The event is sponsored by Whitehall Township Recreation Bureau. Refreshments will be provided by Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association.

Lehigh Valley with Littles is partnering with Whitehall Fire Department for a Stories at the Firehouse summer series program.

The Hokendauqua station will welcome kids 3 p.m. Aug. 12 to hear a storytime, meet and greet firefighters and see the firetrucks up close and personal.
