LETTERS Annoying train horns

Dear Editor:

Railroad engines are equipped with several horns. And, when passing through the Riverside Drive crossing in Bethlehem, under federal regulations must use them as follows:

At least 15 seconds before the crossing, train horns must be sounded in a standardized pattern of two long, one short and one long blasts. Horns sound day and night.

The City of Bethlehem could apply for a no-horn Quiet Zone, but so far has ignored emails seeking consideration.

Why the silence?
