The Hellertown Post Office, located at 660 Delaware Ave., is celebrating its 200th anniversary April 28. The public is invited to join the festivities, which will begin at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by light refreshments, a special stamp cancellation, as well as historical drawings for attendees to peruse.
Notable scheduled speakers include State Representative Robert Freeman, Hellertown Mayor David Heintzelman, Jessica O’Donnell-Gower of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Megan Beste, District Director of Congresswoman Susan Wild’s office. The USPS will also be represented by Hellertown Postmaster Joseph Di Russo, Post Office Operations Manager Christina Balliro, and District Manager Ed Williamson.
Established in 1823, the original post office was located near the intersection of Main Street and Easton Road – where the Detwiller Plaza clock tower stands - and moved to its current building at Delaware Avenue and Water Street in 1968.
