“Fiddler on the Roof,” is precariously perched above the stage, 7 p.m. April 27, 28, 29; 1 p.m. April 29, auditorium, Salem Christian School, 8031 Salem Bible Church Road, Macungie.
Director Gretchen Geyer is assisted by Music Directors Steve and Jane Rivera, Assistant Music Director Olya Howard, Choreographer Julia Howard and Alumni Choreographer Cadie Geyer.
The musical, with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein, is based on “Tevye and His Daughters,” a series of short stories by Sholem Aleichem.
“Fiddler on the Roof” premiered on Broadway in 1964, receiving nine Tony Awards of 10 nominations. The production received a special Tony in 1972 as the then longest-running musical in Broadway history.
The musical was revived in 1976. The 1981 Broadway revival received one Tony Award nomination. The 1990 Broadway revival received one Tony Award of two nominations. The 2004 Broadway revival was nominated for six Tony Awards. The 2015 revival received three Tony Award nominations.
Songs include “If I Were a Rich Man,” “To Life!,” “Miracle of Miracles,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset.”
