Library spring book sale May 12-13

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon May 3 is “The Rose Code” by Kate Quinn. The book for June 7 is “Lady Clementine” by Marie Benedict. The book club meets virtually.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring book sale is back! The book sale will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12-13 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. May 11. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. There will be a bag sale 2:30-4:30 p.m. May 13. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day Clothes Recycling Event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 22 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding and towels (no stuffed animals). There will be family friendly Earth Day activities 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a picnic cookout. For more information, call the church at 610-965-3265.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 22.

The Ancient Oaks Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29, rain or shine.

Lower Macungie Township will hold its annual Community Day 4-8 p.m. May 2. There will be free, fun activities for all ages including games, inflatables, entertainment, and live music. Food will be available for purchase.

The next meeting for the Lower Lehigh AARP will be held noon May 4 in the lower level of Macungie Memorial Hall. Tickets for the June 1 picnic will be available. For more information, contact Dot at 610-967-3284.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will not meet in May due to conflicts. The next meeting is noon June 6. Hot dogs will be available. The speaker will be Katrina Boyer from Bank of America talking about the newest scams. There will only be one meeting per month in the summer: June 6, July 11 and Aug. 1.

The Lower Macungie Community Book Club will meet 2-3 p.m. May 3 to discuss “The Rose Code” by Kate Quinn. This new in-person book club will meet in the multipurpose room of Lower Macungie Library. For more information, call Sandra at 678-576-9796.

The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold a Spring Craft Show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6. There will be crafters, a gift basket auction, attic treasures, baked goods, perennial plants, refreshments and lunch.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Plots are available to rent on a first come first served basis for residents and nonresidents. Contact the community center for more information.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 6 at the Lower Macungie municipal building parking lot.

Open gym is available at the community center. Residents must purchase an annual membership to use the gym.

Lower Macungie Township offers many programs for adults and children. For more information, go to http://www.lowermac.com/recreation/activities-programs/. Adult classes include baking, belly dance, CPR training, yoga, karate, Latin dance, and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, golf, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Beginning May 1, the hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day. Yard waste collection will be the weeks of May 1, 15 and 29 on the day after regular trash collection.

The next township column will be published May 17; copy deadline is May 11.

Lower Macungie Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

There will be a Homeschool Hour for grades K-5 2 p.m. April 25. This month’s class will focus on “All About Bugs.”

Creation Station Crafts for ages 2 and up will be held 6:30-7:15 p.m. April 24 and May 15 and 10:30-11:15 a.m. May 15.

Get In The Game, an evening of board games for all ages, will be held 1-3 p.m. April 22.

In honor of Earth Day and Longwood Gardens Community Read, there will be a morning craft for adults creating a Scrabble coaster 10 a.m. to noon April 22.

There will be Earth Day Storytime 10:30-11 a.m. for toddlers and youth on the library lawn, weather permitting. An Earth Day Activity Pack will be handed out at the end of the program.

Longwood Gardens Community Read Conversations: Black Food Roundtable will meet 6:30-7:45 p.m. virtually. Advanced registration is required.

There will be a Build It! Block Party for ages 2-6 years 10:30-11:15 a.m. May 9.

Books and Beyond will meet 7-8:30 p.m. May 8 to “The Book Woman’s Daughter” by Kim Michele Richardson.

Sunny Day Storytimes for children ages 2-5 years are back. There will be stories, songs and rhymes 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesdays on the library’s front lawn. The dates for the story times are May 10, 17, 24 and 31. If it is raining, story time will be moved inside with limited seating.
