If there’s one way to put on a show at Coca-Cola Park, it’s throwing a no-hitter.
That’s what Liberty’s John Galgon did last Thursday against rival Freedom in a 7-0 victory.
Galgon, who missed last season after suffering Tommy John surgery, struck out nine and walked two batters in the win.
John’s performance was great for him and the team,” said Liberty head coach Andy Pitsilos. “He worked hard to get back from surgery. So I am happy for him.”
Noah Gyauch-Quirk had two hits and two RBI in the win, as Liberty improved to 6-3 on the season. The Hurricanes have split their last four games, but have a chance to get on a run this week with games against Easton (4-5), Central Catholic (4-7), East Stroudsburg North (0-8) and Muhlenberg (5-2).
With the ‘Canes having high expectations coming off last season’s state finals appearance, it might be only a matter of time before they start to get hot.
“This week is a good opportunity to gain momentum one game at a time,” Pitsilos said. “The teams performance so far is up and down. We’ve been putting the ball in the air too much, and at Liberty that’s a recipe for failure. We have played some good teams and hopefully we are better in the end than now.
Freedom (4-7) have lost five of their last six games, but have a chance to make up some ground this week with games against Dieruff (1-10), Whitehall (6-3) and East Stroudsburg South (3-8).
Bethlehem Catholic (7-4) saw their five-game win streak snapped last week in a 1-0 loss to North Pocono, but the Hawks get back to league action this week with Nazareth (9-2), Parkland (9-2) and Stroudsburg (6-5).
“Our team first approach has been huge with the early injuries to our pitching staff,” said Hawks’ head coach Matt Corsi. “We are as healthy as we will be (Our Ace Beckham McNally is out for the season). We enter a big three game week.”
