Freedom boys look to remain unbeaten
If there was one week on the EPC schedule that Freedom may have circled, it would be this week.
The Patriots (9-0) are the only undefeated team in District 11 and will get their best shots from traditional lacrosse powers Emmaus (6-2) and Easton (8-2) this week.
The Pates have handled most of their opponents this season, as last Saturday’s 16-9 victory over Methacton was the closest encounter they’ve faced so far this season.
Senior Alex Hume leads the team with 40 goals this season, while senior Alex Greenberg has 30 goals and 29 assists. Jake Ballerini has 27 goals and 29 assists to round out the Pates dynamic trio.
Freedom caps off the week with a Saturday showdown against Moravian (1-4).
Liberty (1-8) and Bethlehem Catholic (0-6) have struggled to find their footing this season, but both will see each other on Thursday in a city rivalry showdown at Becahi. The Hurricanes picked up their first win of the season over the weekend with a 15-3 win over Holy Redeemer. Nate Vella led the ‘Canes with nine goals on the day.
On the girls side, Freedom (5-4) has won three of their last four outings, picking up wins over Liberty, Northampton and Nazareth. Paige Jenkins eclipsed the 100 career goal mark in their 17-6 win over Northampton last week, as she leads the team with 31 goals on the season.
Karee Vandever has 23 goals and seven assists on the year and Paige Telatovich has 22 goals and 10 assists.
The Pates face Emmaus (9-1), Easton (5-2) and Lake Lehman this week. It’s an opportunity for the girls to play their most competitive week of EPC action this season so far and keep pace with the top four teams in the District 11 3A power ratings.
Liberty (2-9) registered their second win of the season last weekend, knocking off Daniel Boone 11-8. The Hurricanes lone contest this week was against Moravian on Tuesday.
