The Parkland School Board recently granted approval to the proposed 2023-24 budgets of Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Lehigh Carbon Community College and Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21.
The votes include acceptance of the amounts the district will pay as its share to each of its partners in education.
Representatives of each institution visited the board and offered comments about the costs.
The Parkland portion for each school is determined by a formula based on various factors including the number of district residents enrolled there.
Dr. Lisa Greenawalt, executive director of LCTI, reported the school maintains partnerships with the business community and provides a vigorous curriculum for students.
She said LCTI has established a new position for instruction for English Language Learners.
The proposed 2023-24 LCTI budget lists $30.7 million in its general operating fund and $2.3 million for the academic center.
Parkland’s share will be $4.8 million for the general operating fund and $434,394 for the academic center.
The district’s increase over last term is $389,627.
The 2023-24 budget proposed for LCCC stands at $59.9 million, an increase of $1.2 million over the previous term.
Parkland’s appropriation will be $1.3 million, an increase of $9,641 over the last school year.
The community college takes in about $6.2 million from sponsoring school districts.
Tuition for full time enrollment is $2,595 per semester.
Information on the LCCC proposed budget was presented by President Dr. Ann Beiber and Stephanie Nester, vice president for finance and administrative services.
Moving to the proposed general operating budget for 2023-24 at CLIU 21, Kimberly Talipan, assistant to the executive director, said the financial plan must be approved by all participating school districts and must be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education by May 1.
Jeanne Coy, business office director, reported the proposed 2023-24 general operating budget will be $3.5 million, an increase of $123,301 over the previous term.
Parkland’s share will be $211,547, a $5,861 increase.
In addition to the general operating budget, Parkland’s contributions to CLIU include transportation and other services.
