Bethlehem Catholic’s boys tennis team hosted Liberty on April 14 when the Hurricanes topped the Golden Hawks, 6-0.
In the most competitive match of the day, Liberty’s Roman Farhad hung on in the second set to win, 6-1, 7-5, against Becahi’s Armaan Makwana at number one singles.
Said Makwana, “I changed my mentality and tried to switch it up in the second set. In the first set, I sliced a lot, and I realized he was doing better off the lower ball, coming to the net more and trying to be more aggressive.”
Makwana is the Hawks’ only senior.
“He’s very even-keeled,” said Becahi coach Melissa Magliochetti. “He doesn’t get overly emotional on the court, which can sometimes be the downfall of players. He keeps his emotions in check and focuses on the task at hand and keeps plugging away.”
At number two singles, Luke Appleman defeated Xavier Shive Sanchez, 6-0 6-1, and at number three singles,
David Broczkowski defeated Benjamin Blum, 6-0 6-2.
Sid Tekumalla and Jacksen Jobes defeated John Vallance and Liam Maloney at number two doubles, 6-3 6-0,
Chris Giannaras and Elijah Quan defeated Tyler Lennert and Jorge Herrara, 6-0 6-0, at number three doubles, and at number four doubles, Caden Vermuelen and Matt Attev defeated Henry Russell and Duy Pham, 6-0 6-1.
With the regular season winding down, the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Tennis Championships are scheduled for April 20 when champions will be crowned at each spot in a lineup.
