The Northwestern Lehigh girls lacrosse team looked to set a record for wins in a season when they faced East Penn Conference powerhouse Easton last week. Beating the Red Rovers would have been the fifth win of the season for the Lady Tigers, who have already tied their former high of four wins in a season which they set in 2021.
The Lady Rovers (3-2 overall, 2-1 EPC) were able to get out of Tiger Stadium with a 13-9 win over Northwestern Lehigh (4-2).
Olivia Costa and Ava Collins both had three goals in the loss to Easton. Claire Costa, Lexi Vennera, and Taylor Langley also scored goals for Northwestern Lehigh. Vennera added an assist to her totals, which gives the senior midfielder 100 points in her high school career.
Vennera is the second girls’ player to reach the 100-point mark for her career after classmate Collins reached the mark. Collins also reached the 100-goal mark for her career.
Northwestern Lehigh won three games last season after reaching a high for the program with four wins in 2021. The program was started in 2019 and then lost their second season when spring sports were shut down by COVID in 2020.
Their 4-2 record this season currently has Northwestern ranked second in the 2A district 11 classification, trailing only Southern Lehigh (5-1). The two teams will meet for the first time this season on April 20 at Southern Lehigh. They also meet in the Lady Tigers’ final game of the season on May 16 with that game being played at Tiger Stadium.
Northwestern Lehigh plays Nazareth (2-5, 1-3 EPC) and Liberty (2-7, 0-5 EPC) this week.
