The Parkland boys tennis program improved to 8-2 with victories last week over three schools.
Coach Michael Hingston’s program defeated Pocono Mountain East, Pleasant Valley and East Stroudsburg North. In the win over the Bears, the Trojans received several fine performances.
No. 1 singles Kevin Yao utilized his full tennis game to beat Ben Keppel, 6-2, 6-0. No. 2 singles Noah Oxfeld then got into the act when he defeated Pleasant Valley’s Noah Dolan, 7-6, 6-1. Finally Matt Ringold, playing in the No. 3 position, beat Roman Steuer 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
The Parkland doubles also performed well. Taehyuk Yang and Rithik Raghuraman playing in the No. 2 doubles slot beat Damon McMurty and Aaron Rehrig, 6-0, 6-1.
Ryan Wu and Ojas Karandikar played well in their match against Pleasant Valley’s Chris Weiner and Jens Hansen, winning 6-2, 6-2.
One of the foundations of Parkland tennis has been their depth. That was on display in the win over the Bears. Yechan Cho and Jack Chu won the No. 4 doubles match over Pleasant Valley’s Brian O’Neill and Logan Krock, 6-1, 6-0.
“We have a lot of younger players coming into the mix this year,” Hingston said. “This team is looking to forge its own identity.”
The Trojans hit the road for three matches in three consecutive days before returning home April 14 for a battle with Nazareth. Parkland concludes the regular season on April 17 with a visit to rival Emmaus.
