The Northwestern baseball team opened last week with games on three straight days with the first two games going in the loss column to extend their losing skid to five games.
The Tigers ended the stretch with a win against Pen Argyl (5-3 overall, 4-3 Colonial) to end the slide and put them at 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the Colonial League as they fight to pull themselves back up through the league standings.
Bangor (7-0, 6-0) came to town and pounded away on the Tigers to pick up a 19-1 win. Northwestern pitchers walked eight batters in the game and gave up 15 hits. Two first inning errors led to an unearned run as the Slaters started with a nine-run top of the first inning and would go on to score 10 more runs in the win.
The Tigers picked up their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Josh Farber.
After a 10-0 loss to Southern Lehigh (6-0, 6-0), Northwestern rebounded to down Pen Argyl 12-2 to end the streak of three games in three days and take the team into the Easter break.
As a team, the Tigers are batting just .222 on the year with Josh Lichman leading the team with a .367 average. Justin Augustus is the only other hitter over the .300 mark, hitting .321. Chase Moyer (.294), Aidan Freeman (.286), and Bob Croneberger (.263) round out the top five hitters for Northwestern Lehigh.
On the mound, Shaun O’Donnell, a junior, has been strong, posting a 2.13 ERA in seven games for the Tigers this season. Senior Wes George has a 3.62 ERA in four outings.
Northwestern hosts Saucon Valley (5-1, 5-1) and then plays at Wilson (4-3, 3-3) before returning to play Blue Mountain (3-3) on Saturday.
