Last week was another tough week for the Lady Falcons on the softball field. Salisbury played games on three straight days last week, facing Catasauqua (3-4 overall, 2-4 Colonial), Palmerton (4-4, 3-3), and Northern Lehigh (5-2, 4-2) and was unable to win a game against the three opponents.
The losses give the Falcons a seven-game skid after a season-opening win against Dieruff, leaving Salisbury at 1-7 overall and 0-6 in Colonial League play.
The big news was that pitcher Beth Carney struck out 11 batters in the 6-0 loss to Catasauqua and went 3-for-3 at the plate. The 11 strikeouts put her over the 200-strikeout mark for her career to put her at 202. Unfortunately, in the next game against Palmerton, Carney had to be lifted after two innings because of a sprained ankle and she also missed the next game against Northern Lehigh. The Falcons hope to have Carney back in the circle when they face defending league champion Bangor.
Offensively, a couple of Salisbury players are putting up good numbers.
Junior Gabby De Jesus is second to Carney in hitting with a .385 average and Bailey Neitz is batting .381 with one home run and seven RBI this season to share the team lead in runs batted in. As a team, Salisbury is batting .232 on the season.
The upcoming schedule has Salisbury hosting Allen (0-8, 0-8), Bangor (3-4, 3-2), and Notre Dame of Green Pond (1-5, 0-5) this week.
