Philip Norman Hublitz, 82, of Allentown, died April 9, 2023, at home. He was the husband of Jacqueline Lewis.
Born in New York City, he was a son of Evelyn (Pauling) and Norman Philip Hublitz.
He was a 1958 graduate of Moravian Prep. He went to Bucknell and Millersville universities and graduated with a Masters in Education degree from Lehigh University.
He began teaching in the Allentown School District in 1964, and taught at Whitehall-Coplay Middle School beginning in the early 1970s. He retired in 2002 after 37 years as a classroom teacher.
In 1977, he was nominated for and was one of 10 finalists for Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year. He was involved and was an officer with educational support groups including the Allentown Teacher’s Club, the AFT, the Tri-county Industrial Arts Society and the Technology Education Association of Pennsylvania.
He was a board member and a past president of the Ptarmigan Ski Club. He was a member of Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council for 16 years. He was a chair and co-chair of the LVMAC scholarship program that provided awards to vets, their children and to JROTC and ROTC students at local colleges. He belonged to and was a board member of Trout Unlimited, where he started a fly-fishing program for injured veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn and her husband of Steven E. Getchell of Woodinville, Wash.
He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Reark; and an uncle, W. Charles Hublitz.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
