Parkland volleyball improves to 6-0

The Parkland High School boys volleyball team opened the 2023 regular season by winning its first three matches, including two in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and a four-set thriller over the sixth-ranked team in the state, Pennridge.

The Trojans followed that up with the Bobcat Invitational at Northeastern High School.

Last week, Parkland won both of its matches in straight sets, a conference victory over Freedom by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-13, last Tuesday, April 4th.

The Trojans followed that up with a nonconference win against Southern Lehigh on Thursday, by scores of 25-14, 25-23 and 25-18.

Chase Robbins led the attack against the Patriots with a team-high 11 kills and added two blocks, one assist and four digs.

Josh Nation recorded six kills, three blocks and two digs. Brady Hayward tallied four kills and three blocks. Kumayl Soonasra contributed 29 assists, two kills, one block and six digs.

Owen Rodgers notched four kills and one dig and Luke Smith added three kills, two blocks and two digs.

Against the Spartans, Robbins once again paced the offense with a match-high 16 kills and had three blocks, four assists and eight digs. Nation finished with seven kills, eight digs and one block.

Will Stiles recorded 22 assists and three digs. Smith tallied three kills, three blocks, eight digs and one block.

Parkland is one of three teams in the EPC that is undefeated at 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference. It is tied for first place with Nazareth (9-0, 5-0) and Emmaus (7-0, 5-0).

The Trojans defeated Dieruff this past Tuesday and are at Whitehall Thursday before playing in the Kohler Classic at Central York High School on Saturday. They will play teams like Montour, State College, Mechanicsburg and Hempfield in pool play at the event.
