Parkland boys track beats Freedom, improves to 3-0

The Parkland boys track and field program had no trouble procuring its third win of the season last Tuesday.

The Trojans pounded Freedom 134-15. With the victory, coach Stephen Ott’s team improved to 3-0.

It didn’t take long for Parkland to show the Pates who was boss. Trey Tremba won the 100-meter dash, while teammate Dylan Simon claimed the 200-meter competition. Brady Hoffman took the 400 and Tyler Rothrock won the 800. Ethan Willard continued his fine early season, winning the 1,600 and 3,200.

Simon not only won his race, but his 21.71 mark set a new Parkland High School record which had been held by John Clipper since 1999.

Andrew Beers is another outstanding Parkland athlete, and he won the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. His 38.38 time in the 300 set a new school record which had been held by Brian Powell since 2002.

Meanwhile, the Parkland relays teams looked strong, sweeping their Freedom counterparts.

Another fine Trojan athlete is Conor Johns, who won the high jump and the long jump. Teammate James McCauley won the pole vault, while Jack Harrison claimed the triple jump.

The shot put competition was claimed by Parkland’s Russell Clark, while Julius Reyes was tops in the discus throw and Leo Dauberman won the javelin.

Next up for the Trojans is a visit to Central Catholic on April 12.
