Hornet girls lacrosse bounces back with three straight wins
The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team bounced back from its first setback of the 2023 regular season by winning it’s next three games. After a 13-9 nonconference loss to Wilson West Lawn, the Hornets won all three of their games last week, all out of conference games as well.
It was a three game-in-a-row road trip at Moravian Academy last Monday, April 3, then at Saucon Valley on Tuesday before finishing the string at Central Bucks West on Wednesday.
Emmaus scored the opening nine goals in the game against the Lions and were never threatened on their way to an 18-3 victory. Jordyn Poll led the team with a game-high four goals and added an assist. Emily Hollinger, Bri McClain and Olivia Schmidt all finished with three goals each, with Hollinger contributing three assists. Natalie McKiernan, Reese Gerhart, Brooke Peterson, Jessica Khan and Evelyn McAllister all found the back of the net once to round out the scoring.
Alani Shotwell made four saves in net for the Green Hornets.
Emmaus jumped ahead of Saucon Valley early and often and stormed to a 15-4 victory. Hollinger paced the attack with six goals, while both Schmidt and Peterson tallied three goals each. Poll recorded two goals and an assist and McClain had one goal and an assist. McKiernan dished out two assists and McAllister added one.
Shotwell finished with three saves.
The game at Central Bucks West was more of a challenge for Emmaus as it held on late for an 11-9 win. There was a different leading goal scorer for the third straight game as McClain finished with six goals and an assist. Poll netted three goals and three assists and Hollinger rounded out the scoring with two goals and an assist. Schmidt, Peterson and Gerhart all had an assist apiece.
Shotwell stopped three shots.
Emmaus is now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play with games three games this week. The Hornets played at Northampton on Tuesday in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action then return home to host Crestwood on Thursday and Southern Lehigh on Saturday.
