EHS tennis wins three matches

The Emmaus boys tennis program earned three victories by playing outstanding tennis last week.

Coach Fred Saab’s team defeated Easton, Bethlehem Catholic and Northampton last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to improve to its regular season record to 6-4.

The Hornets easily downed the Konkrete Kids, 5-1. No. 1 singles Eddy Chow, No. 2 Nick Stone and No. 3 Zach Moser each won their matches in straight sets. Saab has been impressed by the trio’s work ethic, adaptability and coachability. Chow and Stone are veterans who were expected to anchor the Emmaus roster this year. Moser, however, was something of an unknown commodity.

“Zach dedicated this past offseason to train, practice and improve,” Saab said. “He is tall and athletic, and he uses that to his advantage.”

The No. 2 doubles team of Ryan Baig and Quinn Durkin were superb in downing Northampton’s Reece Makary and Connor Retlick, 6-0. 6-0.

“Both boys have been playing tennis for many years,” the coach said. “Each has excellent technical strokes and are strong players.”

The No. 4 doubles team of Huy Huynh and Abdoul Aidala also played well, beating the Kids’ Nicholas Riechel and Brennan Grover, 6-2, 6-2. This pair has shown continued improvement as the 2023 season unfolds.

Against the Golden Hawks the day before, No. 3 doubles Sarvesh Senguttuvan and Quaid Peatiwala did a good job for the Hornets, beating Tyler Lennert and Jorge Herrara, 6-4, 6-1.

“Sarvesh is a hard worker and is excited to play,” Saab said. “Quaid is a strong left-handed player.”

Emmaus has five regular season matches remaining. The season finale is scheduled for April 17 against rival Parkland.

The Hornets head into this week at 8-4 overall and 8-3 in EPC matches.
