Baird on ballot for school board on Election Day, May 16

Dr. Michael Baird announced he is seeking reelection for school board director in Northampton Area School District, Region 2 - East Allen Township and Northampton Borough.

He is cross-filed on both the Democratic and Republican ballots.

Baird said he feels his experience and educational knowledge will provide the residents of Region 2 the person most qualified to help lead NASD through the many challenges now facing parents, teachers and administrators.

He has served the residents of Region 2 for 12 years, and before that, he was a school director in another district for more than 10 years. Other qualifications are township government, community volunteer, teacher and administrator.

He graduated from Millersville University with a Bachelor of Science in education and from East Stroudsburg University with master’s in secondary education. He completed his doctoral work at Nova Southeastern University.

The major issues facing NASD are how to provide a quality education at a price taxpayers can afford and aging buildings that either need to be abandoned and replaced or spend a great deal of money renovating, according to Baird.

Baird said he wants to continue to move the district forward in a positive manner. There has been a great deal accomplished in the last 12 years with buildings, curriculum and employing of staff, he said, adding he does not want to see NASD start to deteriorate by falling prey to outside influences that wish to only enhance their own agenda.

“It is important to build on the positive and not dwell on the negative,” Baird said.

Baird said he is asking for voters’ support May 16 in order to continue to assure the students a quality education, while making it affordable to all residents.
