The Freedom HS Theatre Company presents the musical ‘Beauty and the Beast’ on Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m., Friday, April 21 at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday April 23 at 1 p.m.. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is based on a French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont with a book by Linda Woolverton. Music is by Alan Menken and lyrics are by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. The storyline revolves around the selfishness of a prince who is transformed into an ugly beast by an enchantress masquerading as a beggar woman, and for whom love is the only way to return to human form.
Justin Amann directs and is assisted by Natalie Parker. Also assisting are Vanessa Ruggiero, choreographer; Denice Parker, musical director; Priscilla Salazar, prop mistress; and costumer, Adam Stolz,sound designer, Chris Domanski-set designer, and Michael Moran- pit director.
Performances take place in the Freedom HS theater auditorium.
The young prince (Quincy West) rebuffs a beggar woman's (Reghan Schaffer) offer of a rose for shelter.
The beggar woman becomes an enchantress (Reghan Schaffer) who rises into the air and casts a spell on the young prince.
The young prince has become the Beast (Edwin Feijoo) and sees his image in a mirror for the first time.
