The sun splashed over Bethlehem the day before Easter, as traffic hummed over the Hill-to-Hill Bridge and the city bustled with the busyness of a Saturday morning.
Under the bridge at Danny Rice Field, children were filled with the “egg-citement” of Easter April 8 at the City of Bethlehem Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the City of Bethlehem Recreation Bureau.
Children were quick to spring into action in search of the eggs that were placed around the field at the intersection of Main, Spring and Lehigh streets. Kids were asked to bring their own baskets to the event, which was open to all children residing in the city.
Daniel J. Rice, a Vietnam veteran who joined the Bethlehem Police in April 1971, was a 26-year veteran of the Bethlehem police force when he was killed in a car accident while on duty.
