Susan J. Hartman, 71, of Kempton, died peacefully April 7, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Inpatient Hospice, Allentown.
She and her husband, Ronald R. Hartman, shared more than 49 years of marriage.
Born in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Noreen (Rex) Henry.
A 1969 graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1973 graduate of Kutztown University, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in secondary education and Spanish.
In the 1990s, she was a teacher for the Hamburg Christian School and Brandywine Heights Area School District, Topton.
Although she greatly enjoyed teaching, her love of music took her in a different direction later in life.
She was known locally for sharing her love of music as a church organist at Jacob’s Church, St. Peter’s Lynnville Church, and as an assistant organist at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, all in New Tripoli.
She was a member of Zion’s Church, Hamburg.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jennifer B. (Keith) Bergenstock of New Tripoli; sons Steven R. (Madie) Hartman of Harrisburg, and Nathan R. (Wenhui) Hartman of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; sisters Judy Ritchie of Aurora, Colo., and Ann P. Henry of Zebulon, N.C.; brothers Scot A. (Heidi) Henry of Leesport, and Kris R. (Mary) Henry of Manistique, Mich.
