Everyone might have their eyes on Liberty’s baseball team this spring, but don’t take Bethlehem Catholic for granted.
The Golden Hawks have rebounded from a 2-3 start to win their last three games, including last week’s 13-8 victory over Nazareth to set themselves up nicely with this week’s slate of games on the docket.
Becahi (5-3) was the first team to knock off the Blue Eagles (6-2) this season, jumping out to a 10-1 lead after four innings and holding on for the win. Eric Wert had himself a day at the place belting a home run and knocking in three RBI on two hits. He also had two runs scored in the Hawks biggest win of the season to push them to the top of the D-11 4A rankings.
With games against Central Catholic (3-5), Dieruff (0-8) and North Pocono this week, the Hawks can gain some momentum toward clinching a district playoff spot sooner than later.
Liberty (5-2) bounced back from a loss to Parkland last week to top Pocono East 7-0 before the Easter break. Reece D’Amico went 3-for-3 with two RBI in the win.
The ‘Canes look to build this week with contests against Wilson, Freedom and Williamsport.
The Pates (4-4) snapped a two-game skid last week by knocking off Pocono Mountain West 7-4. Freedom faces a challenging week of Northampton County games with Easton (3-4), Liberty and Northampton (5-3) this week.
