Gordon J. Harter

Gordon J. Harter, 76, of Nazareth and formerly of Dorrance Township, died March 23, 2023, at Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. He was the husband of Jane E. (Becker) Harter for 54 years.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Calvin J. and Martha Betty (Rumpilla) Harter.

He was a 1965 graduate of Crestwood High School. He earned an associate degree in business from the former Wilkes-Barre Business College in 1967.

He was a member of the Army National Guard and retired as a master sergeant after 21.5 years.

He was last an insurance agent for 15 years for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Allentown, until he retired in 2014. He was vice president of marketing for the Second National Bank, Nazareth, for 25 years until it was sold to Fulton Financial. He was then branch manager until its closing. He was an independent tax preparer for more than 50 years.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Bethlehem.

He was a former assistant Scout Master with Boy Scout Troop 74, Bushkill Township. He was a member of F&A Masons Whitfield Lodge 622, Nazareth, and a 32 Degree Mason with Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown. He was a member of the Rajah Shriner, Reading, and a member of the chapter, council and commandery of the Knights Templar, East Stroudsburg.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, competitive pistol shooting and shot gunning at East Bath Rod and Gun Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Michael C. with Michelle, Daniel R. with Tina and Andrew G. with Michelle; two sisters, Gail M. Harter and Darlene Duke with Gregory; and six grandchildren.
