“Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” dances to the stage in glass slippers, 7 p.m. April 14, 15, 21, 22 and 3 p.m. April 16, auditorium, Bethlehem Catholic High School, 2133 Madison Avenue, Bethlehem.
Director Diana Tice is assisted by Assistant Director and Choreographer Rachael Leonard, Assistant Director Garrett Farrell and Music Director Joseph Fink.
After being kicked around by her cruel stepmother and self-centered stepsisters, a young woman dreams of a better life.
With music by Richard Rodgers and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical is adapted for the stage from the 1957 CBS teleplay starring Julie Andrews.
The basis for the story is the fairy tale “Cendrillon, ou la petite pantoufle de verre” (“Cinderella, or The Little Glass Slipper”) by 17th-century French author Charles Perrault.
The TV special received three 1957 Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Two televised versions followed in 1965 and 1997, as well as stage productions.
Musical numbers include “In My Own Little Corner,” “Ten Minutes Ago,” “It’s Possible” and “Do I Love You Because You Are Wonderful?”
