Softball team blanks LHS

The Konkrete Kids went above and beyond in their mission to claim their place within the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference when they defeated Liberty in five innings, 10-0, on March 31 at Liberty.

“We wanted to prove that we’re still one of the top teams here in the EPC,” said Northampton coach Kristy Henritzy. “ No, I don’t think I was expecting us to 10-run them. It’s a great team. They’re well-coached. But the expectation of what I thought would happen is that we’re gonna stay in a game, and we’re gonna make sure that every opportunity we have, we’re gonna execute where we need to, and I think that’s the biggest piece of this.”

After Northampton pitcher Emma Fraley’s solo home run in the second inning, the K-Kids put up six runs in the third inning.

“We chip away a lot, and once we get our momentum, you can’t really stop it,” Fraley said.

Hannah Makovsky led off with a single up the middle and got to second base on a wild pitch. Ava Cascario singled to left field and stole second. Then, Hannah Duerr had a base hit to center field and got to second on the throw home.

Liberty pitcher Miya Williams walked the next three batters before giving up a 2 RBI single to Sam Barber.

The K-Kids scored two more runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth inning.

Kylie Eberts walked, Cascario singled, and Fraley doubled down the third base line after fouling off multiple pitches in the same place.

“I wanted to keep it going, keep the ball rolling,” said Fraley, who was faced with a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the fifth that would have spoiled the mercy rule ending to that point.

“I love a good game,” she said. “You never want to give up a run, so I wanted to get that out. I worked kind of in, kind of away, more away.”

Northampton’s victory over Liberty kept the Kids undefeated with a record of 5-0.

“Emma’s doing a great job in the circle, so it’s good to see her step into that role and take on the workload,” said Coach Henritzy. “Her record last season was 6-0, so she had proved that she could throw a full game and win.”
