Man taken into custody at Dorney Park

A 31-year-old man, wanted on multiple warrants, was taken into custody by police after jumping the fence to Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom, South Whitehall.

According to South Whitehall police, around 4:54 p.m. March 25, officers responded to the Howard Johnson, 3220 Hamilton Blvd., for a report of a man wanted on an active felony warrant and a probation violation being at the location.

Agents from Lehigh Valley Bail spotted Timothy J. Davis Burgess, who had also allegedly skipped out on bail, at the hotel.

The agents further alleged Burgess was armed, police say.

Upon police arrival, an officer allegedly saw Burgess running across Hamilton Boulevard and jumping over the perimeter fence to Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom near the water park, which was closed at the time.

South Whitehall police requested assistance from surrounding agencies to establish a perimeter around the park to prevent Burgess from escaping apprehension.

Police say officers from Salisbury and Upper Macungie townships and the Allentown police departments, along with Pennsylvania State Police, arrived a short time later.

According to police, Burgess was contained inside the park.

Dorney Park Security personnel assisted by reviewing the park’s surveillance cameras and followed Burgess through the park to one of multiple buildings near the water park, police say.

Police say they also requested assistance from the Lehigh County Drone Response Team to provide overhead surveillance.

According to police, after an initial search of the park, Burgess was found inside one of the restaurant buildings where he was last spotted by surveillance footage.

He was taken into custody by officers without further incident. He was not armed.

Burgess was charged with criminal offenses and is currently being held in Lehigh County Jail on local charges, as well as his multiple arrest warrants, pending a preliminary hearing, police said.

South Whitehall Township police want to express their appreciation to their officers and the personnel from all the local, county and state agencies for all their efforts in ensuring another successful outcome.
