Hurricane tennis team blanks Emmaus
The Liberty Hurricanes made quick work of the Emmaus Hornets on the tennis court and won, 7-0, on March 30 at Liberty.
“We had a good match,” said Liberty coach Chris Conrad. “There was some motivation, I think, based on personalities and prior matches. They were motivated to play their best.”
Roman Farhad won at one singles, 6-2, 6-0, over Eddy Chow, Luke Appleman defeated Nick Stone, 6-2, 6-0, at two singles, and David Broczkowski defeated Zach Moser, 6-1, 6-0, at three singles.
“I was expecting a good match, but I’ve been practicing a lot, so I felt really good coming into it, and I played well. I feel like I fixed my mindset, I felt the touch, and I could hit any shot I wanted,” said Farhad. “I faced him before, and it was a really close match. He usually hits good shots and comes out of nowhere, so I made sure that didn’t happen.”
Appleman has also been putting in the work since last season.
“I really fixed everything. My backhand was bad last year, but that improved a lot, and my serve really improved too,” Appleman said. “[Nick Stone] likes to hit it when we’re on the deuce side. He likes to hit it across, and he leaves the line open all the time, and I hit the line a lot.”
The number one doubles pair of Micah Steck and EJ Powers won, 8-3, and at two doubles, Chris Giannaris and Sid Tekumalla defeated Ryan Baig and Quinn Durkin, 6-0, 6-0.
At three doubles, Elijah Quan and Jacksen Jobes won their match over Sarresh Senguttuvan and Quaid Peatiwal, 6-4, 6-0, and at four doubles, Matt Alter and Finn Brown defeated Abdoul Aidala and Cole Stuchko, 6-2, 6-1.
“The lineup is set for doubles right now, but we’re going to have some moving parts for [the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Championship Tournament] because there’s a band trip, and I’m going to lose six of my starters, so a number of guys who are playing today are trying to find alternates to play there because we have the depth to do that,” said Coach Conrad. “We just need to figure out who are the best second tandems to at least get them into EPCs.”
Alter and Brown played an extra match on March 30 and defeated East Stroudsburg North’s Jacob Karpinski and Joseph Medina, 8-1. The Timberwolves have doubles players only on their roster. Liberty’s Neil Rana and Connor Ohl then defeated Medina and Diego Cano, 8-2.
Liberty remains undefeated as of Press deadlines and will host Nazareth on April 6.
