The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team had a successful start to the 2023 regular season. The Green Hornets opened the year with an unbeaten first week, winning both of their games last week.

In the season opener last Tuesday on the road, Emmaus had to hold on late to take down Spring-Ford by a single goal, 10-9. Two days later, the game came a little bit easier for the Hornets and it was decided a little earlier as they defeated Nazareth 18-3 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference opener and home opener at Memorial Field.

Against the Rams in the opener, senior Emily Hollinger led the Emmaus attack with a game-high five goals and she added an assist. Junior Brianna McClain tallied three goals and one assist. Juniors Jordyn Poll and Melea Weber scored a goal each with Poll contributing an assist. Sophomore Brooke Peterson finished with an assist. In goal, junior Alani Shotwell made 10 saves.

On Thursday night on their home turf, the Green Hornets took care of business from the opening whistle. They found the back of the net nine times in both the first and second halves. Emmaus held a 9-2 halftime advantage and then outscored the Blue Eagles 9-1 in the second half on its way to victory.

Emmaus had a conference home game against Bethlehem Catholic, scheduled for Tuesday, canceled. The Green Hornets will host Liberty in an EPC game on Thursday and then welcome Wilson West Lawn in a nonconference game on Saturday.
