Progress is what Tim Sledz wants with Bethlehem Catholic’s volleyball team this season.
The Hawks are hoping they can build each day with the roster at their disposal and Sledz understands the process is a gradual step toward competing.
“We have a solid group of players coming back this year and we are looking for them all to make contributions to the team,” said Sledz. “With such a small roster we have to be flexible in our ability to play different positions and put team goals over individual interests.”
The returning seniors for the Hawks include Matteo Mowrey (OH); Josh Doane (OH/OPP) and Hazie Camacho (MH). Senior Brenden Finnegan (OH) is also on the roster this spring as a newcomer.
Juniors that are back in the fold are Jack Preiss (MH) and Robby Welsh (OPP/Setter/ OH), along with sophomores Ethan Wiles (Libero), Daniel Sledz (Setter / OPP) and Michael Parks (OPP), with Nathaniel Yoder (DS) joining the team this year.
“They have been putting in a lot of time at open gyms over the offseason and a couple did club over the winter so we are coming in with more team experience than we did last year when we only one two-to-three matches. We are looking to improve on that and challenge teams each game. The players know better what it takes to be successful and look forward to getting out on the court.”
The Hawks have gotten off to a 1-3 start on the season, dropping games to Easton, Freedom and Tunkhannock. They defeated Notre Dame Green Pond on Monday in five games, but have a tough with week with EPC powers Parkland and Whitehall on tap.
