The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team continued to take care of business in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference last week, remaining unbeaten by winning both of its games at home against Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday and then on the road at Liberty on Thursday. This followed a season-opening, road win at Nazareth on March 23.
The Hornets, however, did suffer their first setback of the 2023 regular season this past Saturday, losing a nonleague contest at Wilson West Lawn High School. The Hornets still remain atop of the conference standings with Parkland, Easton and Freedom as the lone unbeatens in the league.
Emmaus was able to put on a show in front of its home crowd for the first time this season, taking down the Golden Hawks 20-0.
Will Barber led the attack with six goals and five assists. Nine Emmaus players found the back of the net in the game. Jack Restino scored four goals. Liam Rooney had three and Michael Chies added two. Kaleb Mains, Miles Hulbert, John Hughes, Owen Moyer and Ryan Maloney all had one each. Aidan Garrett contributed a team-high six assists.
Two days later, Emmaus recorded another double-figure victory, defeating Liberty 12-2. Barber, Restino and Hughes all finished with three goals each, with Barber adding six assists and Restino two. Rooney tallied two goals and two assists and Garrett had one goal and one assist and also recorded a team-high 10 ground balls. Sam Rainford made four saves in net for Emmaus.
Then on the road at the Bulldogs on Saturday, Emmaus trailed by four goals in the fourth quarter, but mounted a comeback to tie the game and force overtime. Just 1:14 into the overtime Wilson scored the winner to walk off the field with an 11-10 victory.
Barber finished with a season-best seven goals and had an assist. Garrett, Chies and Restino all had one goal each and Hughes contributed three assists. Rainford stopped 20 shots on the day.
