EHS wins tourney
For the first time in program history, the Emmaus High School boys volleyball team won the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Northeastern High School in York County last Saturday, coming out on top of a tournament of almost 40 teams, including some of the state’s best.
Also last week, the Green Hornets won two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matches on the road at Easton and then at home against Pocono Mountain East.
Last Tuesday, Emmaus returned to Easton where it had just won the Red Rover Invitational that Saturday, March 25th. Just like that day, the Green Hornets took care of business, winning in straight sets, 25-13, 25-15, 25-23.
Jametric Harris finished with a team-high nine kills and three blocks. Logan Dougherty tallied eight kills. Cooper Henseler recorded 29 assists and 10 digs. Zach Baus contributed 13 digs.
On Thursday on its home court, Emmaus defeated PM East 25-14, 25-16, 25-16.
Dougherty led the way with 11 kills. Harris had five kills. Henseler added 23 assists and four digs. Baus totaled a team-high 12 digs.
This past weekend, the Green Hornets played eight matches over a 12-hour span on Saturday, punctuated by a 2-0 victory over the state’s number two team, Cumberland Valley, in the final, by scores of 25-23, and 25-22.
Emmaus had advanced to the finals by taking both sets from fifth-ranked Central York (25-18, 25-19), defeating the host Bobcats 2-1 (14-16, 18-16, 15-13) and taking down rival and fourth-ranked Parkland 2-1 (8-15, 15-13, 15-12) in the opening round of the playoff format.
In pool play, the Hornets went 3-1, defeating William Tennant 30-21, Red Land 30-13 and Red Lion 30-27. Their lone defeat was a 30-21 loss to Governor Mifflin, a team that Emmaus had beaten in a nonleague match back on March 23.
Emmaus is 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the EPC.
