Easton pitcher Audrey Rinda got the best of Bethlehem Catholic’s hitters in the Red Rovers’ 6-2 softball victory over the Golden Hawks on March 29 at Becahi.
“We have some very good hitters, and we weren’t swinging the bat as well as I feel we can, but we have to give their pitcher credit too because she was pretty good,” said Becahi coach Rich Mazza.
Rinda delivered nine strikeouts but gave up a home run to Beca pitcher Mia Van Fleet.
Van Fleet’s homer to left field in the third inning put the Hawks on the scoreboard first, but Rinda struck out the next three batters.
In the top of the fourth inning, Sydney Reinert’s RBI single scored Cieara Barreiros to tie the game, but the Red Rovers proceeded to plate three more runs.
The Hawks left two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth after Francesca Oberholzer’s base hit and a double by Sarah Banko and scored its second run in the fifth inning on Brooklyn Miller’s RBI.
Easton scored its last two runs in the sixth inning while Becahi left fielder Adrianna Truss made a difficult catch in left field for the Red Rovers’ second out and made a diving catch in the seventh inning.
“Yes, she’s playing hard,” said Coach Mazza. “Two great catches.”
The Hawks had a scoring opportunity in the sixth inning after Truss reached base on an error when her hit to center field popped out of Alyssa Mayorca’s glove as Truss sprinted to second. Kristal Torres then had a base hit to right, but Truss was out coming into home.
Becahi is scheduled to travel to East Stroudsburg North on April 5 before facing city rival Liberty on April 11 at Liberty.
