Cyril “Cy” Methodius Kocis, 96, of Limeport, died peacefully at his home March 15, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. He was the husband of the late Reda (Moll) Kocis who died in 2016. Born in Emmaus, he was the son of the late Stephen and Anna (Labanz) Kocis.
After graduating from Emmaus High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II (6th Signal Company, 6th Division) and later worked for and retired from Bell Telephone.
After retirement he started his own telecommunications business and was known as “Cy the phone guy.” He always went above and beyond to ensure the well-being of his family and his tireless work ethic served as a shining example for all who knew him.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, he spent 20 years coaching youth basketball and was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan.
He is survived by his son, Michael (Lara); granddaughter, Erica (Mark); sister, Teresa. He was predeceased by a daughter, Stephanie; sisters, Anna, Mary, Christine, Genevieve, Verna, Helen, Elizabeth, Cecelia and Lucille; brothers, Andrew and Methodius.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Jarett Yoder Foundation (which benefits veterans and first responders), 444 Henningsville Road, Mertztown, 19539.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. April 22 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. A calling hour will be held 10-11 a.m.
