The lacrosse program at Northwestern Lehigh is still young, but many of the growing pains that the girls team has gone through seem to be fading.
The team is 3-0 for the first time in its four seasons with its first three-game winning streak. The Tigers have outscored their opponents 47-18 in the three games and are gaining a lot of confidence along the way.
In an 11-9 win over Saucon Valley (0-1-1), Ava Collins scored five goals to put her over the 100-goal milestone for her career. Olivia Costa joined in with three goals. Lexi Vennera notched two goals and sophomore Olivia Spatz added her first goal of the season for the Lady Tigers.
Their most recent win came Monday against an East Penn Conference opponent in Northampton (0-5) and was an 18-5 win at home.
Vennera had the hot hand Monday as she netted six goals and an assist for Northwestern. Costa chipped in with five and Collins had four to go with three assists. Freshman Taylor Langley picked up her first varsity goal, with senior Clair Costa and sophomore Cara Thomas also picking up goals in the win.
The team has already equaled its win total from last season and is responding well to a slight change in approach from second-year coach Bridget Cerciello, who admitted coming into the season that she might have been a little soft on the players in her first season. The team is playing in a more cohesive and disciplined style.
On the season, Collins is the team leader in goals (15) and assists (5). Vennera is second with 11 goals and three assists and Olivia Costa has 10 goals and an assist through the first three games.
