The Parkland girls track and field team broke into the winning column in their season opener last Wednesday with an 81-69 win at Easton.
The Trojans received several good performances in obtaining a win over one of the better East Penn Conference schools.
“Easton, along with Emmaus, have strong teams as always,” Parkland coach Stephen Ott said. “We started with Easton and end with Emmaus. We have many quality opponents in between. Those battles will help us get stronger for the postseason. Our girls are defending regular season and EPC champions. We expect to be in contention for those titles again this year.”
Mercury-quick Naeema Salau won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Lucy Tobia claimed the 400 and Lana Hurwitz won the 1,600 and 3,200.
This excellent running laid the foundation for the Parkland win. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams contributed also with victories.
In the field Parkland’s Hailey Sammarco won the long jump, Emily Davis took the shot put and Bella Dauberman offered a fine performance in securing the top javelin throw spot.
Ott and his staff look forward to a good season and conditioning will factor into just how good a year the Trojans have.
“We often talk to our athletes about taking care of things that they can control outside our training and competitions,” Ott said. “Sleep, diet, hydration and stretching are some of those areas.”
