Parkland boys tennis wins first three matches

The Parkland boys tennis team began the season 3-0 with a win last Friday over Easton.

Coach Michael Hingston’s squad started the ‘23 campaign like a house on fire, winning all 19 matches and every single set.

No. 1 singles player Josh Thomas wasn’t messing around in beating the Red Rovers’ Cole Van Hoven, 6-1, 6-0.

“Josh is among the very best players in the EPC,” Hingston said. “He can just knock the cover off the ball.”

Lucas Lee provides the Trojans with a potent one-two punch that can handle most EPC schools. Lee took down Easton’s Mahdi Shah, 6-1, 6-2.

“Lucas is very, very consistent,” the coach said. “He just does not underperform, and he doesn’t beat himself.”

Looking just as good was No. 3 Kevin Yao. The super sophomore downed Benjamin Wallitsch, 6-0, 6-0.

“His serve is a weapon,” Hingston noted.

The doubles teams also routed Easton with No. 2 Taehyuk Yang and Rithik Raghuraman, No. 3 Noah Oxfeld and Thomas Gilchrist, No. 4 Ryan Wu and Ojas Karandikur and No. 1 Eric Jin and Matt Ringold all looking good.

Earlier in the week Parkland downed Bethlehem Catholic and Pocono Mountain West in the season opener.
