EHS boys tennis wins first two matches

The Emmaus boys tennis team jumped out to a 2-0 record with victories over East Stroudsburg North and Whitehall.

Coach Fred Saab’s team was dominant in the victory over the Zephyrs. No. 1 singles player Eddy Chow offered a fine performance and showcased various aspects of this game in beating Nathan Mak, 6-0, 6-0.

No. 2 Nick Stone looked just as good in downing Whitehall’s Vincent Tran 6-1, 6-0, while No. 3 Zach Moser also made it look easy in beating Peter Raffoul, 6-0, 6-0.

“Zach is tall and athletic and uses that to his advantage,” Saab said. “He dedicated the past offseason to train, practice and improve.”

Saab was also pleased with his doubles play. Just how far the Green Hornets go this season in the East Penn Conference and District 11 could come down to these young men.

The Hornets’ No. 2 doubles team of Ryan Baig and Quaid Peatiwala and No. 3 pairing Quinn Durkin and Abdoul Aidala were dominant against Whitehall. No. 4 Aidan Bettler and Huy Huynh looked just as strong in the season opening victory over East Stroudsburg North.

“Ryan and Quad are friends off the court and play well together,” Saab said. “Quad is a strong left-hander and Ryan is a right-hander, so the combination works.”

The Hornets struggled March 18 in a 5-0 loss to Southern Lehigh.
