Track teams win vs. Becahi
The Whitehall Zephyrs track and field team, led by first-year head coach Nicole Richards, won its season opener against Bethlehem Catholic on March 23 with a 95-54 victory for the girls team and a 98-48 victory for the boys team at Whitehall High School.
First place finishers in the girls meet were Erika Rape in the 100 meter dash (13.0), Ava Wells in the 200 meter dash (28.4) and the 400 meter dash (1:03.5), and Mikayla Warren in the 3200 meter run (14:35.0), all for Whitehall.
Bethlehem Catholic’s Kendall Nickischer won the 800 meter run (2:41.8), and teammate Lauren Arcuiolo won the 1600 meter run (6:49.9).
Whitehall’s Ava Demjan was first in 100 meter hurdles (18.7), and teammate Llyneida Otanez was first in 300 meter hurdles (55.6).
The Zephyr girls swept all relays: Christian Zulu, M’Balu Fofana, Tessa Hopkins, and Rape in the 4x1 (55.6), Wells, Catherine Hudak, Fonzone, and Grace Tsamutalis in the 4x4 (4:32.9), and Hudak, Fonzone, Tsamutalis, and Sargent in the 4x8 (11:13.0).
Becahi’s Calen Michaels took first place in high jump (5-00.00) and long jump (13-04.00), and Hopkins placed first in pole vault (8-00.00) and triple jump (29-09.00).
In throwing events, Electra Theagene won shot put for Whitehall (30-09.50), and Daviana Jones won discus (79-11), and Olessya Minorics won javelin (99-11), both for Becahi.
First place finishers in the boys meet were Justin Gonzales in the 100 meter dash (11.6), Robert Williams in the 200 meter dash (23.0), and Mekhi Britt in the 800 meter run (2:02.9) and the 1600 meter run (4:48.8), all for Becahi.
Vinson Eggleston took first place in the 400 meter dash (54.3), and Aiden Borkenhagen won the 3200 meter run (12:39.7), both for the Zephyrs.
Also for Whitehall, Ian Thomas was first in 110 meter hurdles (17.0), and Bradley Erie was first in 300 meter hurdles (44.9).
Whitehall won two relays: Nigel Linton, Tony Bullock, Eggleston, and Zachary Onsinyo in the 4x1 (47.0), and Cale Sodl, Jacob Kralick, Austin Hedrick, and Foehrkolb in the 4x8 (10:57.0).
Thomas placed first in high jump (5-09.00), and teammates Landon Kromer won triple jump (34-08.00), and Gregory Sommer won pole vault (11-00.00).
Becahi’s Aidan Rompilla took first place in long jump (21-08.00).
In throwing events, Scott Woodring won discus (98-10.25), and Thomas Lloyd won javelin (156-00) for Whitehall, and Mekhi George won shot put (39-09.00) for Becahi.
