Qualifying for the postseason is always a goal for Freedom’s volleyball team. With head coach John Yanek entering his 31st season, he hopes the crew he brings back this year can make a run to the league and district playoffs coming off last year’s 12-8 season.
Back for the Pates include Nilansh Gupta (Sr., OH); Krish Patel (Sr., Libero); Brayden Erker (Sr., MB); Dillon Fleckenstein (Sr., OH); Zach Franges (Sr., Setter).
Newcomers are Ayden Willman (Fr., MB/OPP); Daniel Soleymani (Jr., MB/OPP); Joey Braun (So., Setter) and Bailey Fleckenstein (So., DS).
“We are working hard toward being a top team,” said Yanek. “We have a solid service receive, serving and defense. We need to improve in blocking and setting. We hope to be in it down the homestretch.”
The Pates went 2-1 last week, picking up wins over Bethlehem Catholic and Northampton, but dropping a match to Nazareth. They have Southern Lehigh and Dieruff on tap this week.
