State Rep. Peter Schweyer, D-134th, will host an unclaimed property search event March 30 at his office for residents of the 134th District.
“Currently, billions of dollars in unclaimed property like checks and safety deposit boxes is being held by the Pennsylvania Treasury and it needs to be returned to the rightful owners,” Schweyer, said. “I encourage anyone who thinks they might have unclaimed property to give my office a call and find out if there’s a pot of gold waiting for you.”
According to Schweyer, unclaimed property may include:
•Closed bank accounts.
•Uncashed checks, including paychecks.
•Lost stocks and bonds.
•Contents of safe deposit boxes.
•Proceeds from the demutualization of insurance companies.
•Expired gift cards/gift certificates.
No appointments are needed for the event, which will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1501 Lehigh St., Suite 206. However, residents are encouraged to first call his district office at 610-791-6270 and a member of Schweyer’s staff will help complete the search over the phone.
Schweyer also cautions residents to ignore any solicitations offering to conduct searches of the database for a fee, as his office can help conduct searches for free.
