Longtime volunteer honored
Recognizing and appreciating the importance of volunteers, Macungie Borough Council honored longtime volunteer Donald Heffner at the March 20 Macungie Borough Council meeting. Heffner received a proclamation for his efforts and proudly stated he is 96 years old.
In other business, the Main Street Commons Phase III Stack Storage was discussed. This is 3-4 story storage unit facility with 840 units available. It is not a 24/7 business but customers would have access 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Office hours would be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The storage units are accessible from the inside. It will take about a year for construction.
There will be a recreational area. Council approved the plan, unanimously, with several waivers.
E-Z Shoppe on Main Street was issued a citation for the tractor trailers regularly parking in their lot.
The bump out committee began their discussion over what to do with the bump outs. Further information is needed to establish a procedure.
The CPA contract committee has begun its investigations involving the establishment of a new system for bookkeeping in the borough business office.
The Church Street sidewalks issue was a lengthy discussion topic. The first step in this process will be sending letters out to Church Street residents. There are two samples of letters. One mentions the ordinance, the other details the ordinance which makes the letter much longer. This matter is still being investigated with a decision to be reached shortly. Other steps are included in the discussion. An ordinance revision could occur.
A discussion was held over the Streetscape residual money. Blinking lights at crosswalks and the work to be done for the bump outs is to be considered.
The Department of Public Works requested approval of a sprinkler system for safety operation in the amount of $1,529.59. They also requested $2,040 for troubleshooting and repairing the fire alarm controller. Both were approved.
An executive session was held for real estate, legal and personnel matters.
