Kelly seeks re-election as S. Whitehall commissioner

Diane Kelly has announced her candidacy for re-election as South Whitehall Township commissioner.

“On Nov. 5, 2019, you trusted me with your vote and elected me to be your voice to build a better South Whitehall for all,” Kelly said. “It is my honor and privilege to serve our community as commissioner, taking a leadership role as board president, to accomplish great changes for the benefit of all of our township residents and businesses.”

Kelly says her 2019 campaign platform was simple.

“I pledged to advocate for balanced growth and preservation, promote open and transparent government, protect residents’ tax dollars through strong budget reviews and audits and support law enforcement and first responders to keep our community safe.

“I am proud to report we absolutely did what I promised our residents.”

Kelly points out the township has adopted the 2023 Comprehensive Plan, the guiding document for growth for the next 10 years.

“I worked to ensure our plan included balanced growth that enhances our community while preserving open space and farmland. We have more work to do.”

The next step in the process is the review of the township zoning and land use ordinances, Kelly said.

“I will work to strengthen our zoning ordinance to ensure responsible growth, protection of our natural and historic resources and preservation of the character and diversity of our township.”

Kelly said township residents now have access to township financial, budget and audit information and virtual public meetings on the township website for full transparency.

“We implemented NIXLE community alerts to keep residents informed and up-to-date on important township information,” Kelly said. “I will continue to advocate for opportunities for residents to be included in their local government.”

According to Kelly, the more than 10 years of past due township audits are complete.

“The township is now positioned to apply for state grants and municipal bonds, if needed,” she explained. “In these uncertain economic times, I have worked to balance our budget and hold taxes steady.

“I will continue to protect your tax dollars through strong budget reviews and prioritizing needs to ensure delivery of the services that keep the community beautiful - snow removal, yard waste and trash/recycling services.

“Our first responders, police, fire, emergency services and public works departments have the necessary funds for their equipment, technology and training needs.

“I will continue to support and prioritize funding for public safety to keep our streets, schools and neighborhoods safe.”

Kelly says commissioners worked hard last year to search for the very best township manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the township.

“I am very proud of the top notch management team we have in place to lead our great staff and serve our township,” Kelly said.

“I remain committed to always be available and responsive to our community.

“I am grateful for your trust and for the past and future support of our community.

It would indeed be my honor to serve the next four years as your commissioner.

“I promise I will work hard to build on the progress we have made to build a better South Whitehall for all.”
