LVHN says more leaks to dark web

The Lehigh Valley Health Network reported Friday that the ransomware group that attacked its system last month has posted more sensitive information on the dark web.

It is the second time it happened last week.

In a statement issued Friday, LVHN said it expects the “shameful” tactic to continue.

“We are evaluating exactly what information has been posted as we simultaneously continue to analyze the content involved,” the statement reads. “This is a complex and labor-intensive exercise and it is important we dedicate the necessary time to determine the information involved.”

The health network discovered unauthorized activity on its information technology systems in early February by BlackCat, a ransomware gang associated with Russia.

Since then, the network said it has been working with cybersecurity firms and experts to analyze the scope of the ex-filtrated data.

“In tandem, we have been closely monitoring and tracking BlackCat’s actions, and they have unfortunately posted additional sensitive information on the dark web - we expect this shameful tactic to continue,” according to the statement.

The network said BlackCat posted three screenshots of cancer patients receiving radiation oncology treatment at LVPG Delta Medix, along with seven documents containing patient information.

The network is providing notices to those whose information was involved.

“As we’ve previously said, this despicable act is executed by cybercriminals trying to make money by taking advantage of our patients and colleagues caring for patients and we condemn this reprehensible exploitation,” the network said.
