Swimmers head to Bucknell
Less than two weeks after taking their 15th straight District 11 team swimming championship, three Emmaus boys swimmers are heading to the state swimming championships at Bucknell University. In addition to having swimmers qualify in three individual events, Emmaus will send three relay teams to Bucknell to compete for state championships.
The highest seeded swimmer for Emmaus is junior Logan Shriver, who is the number-five seed in the 500-yard freestyle event. Shriver finished with a silver medal at districts with a time of 4:40.15, just :00.57 seconds behind Nazareth swimmer Ethan Coffman. McClellen Clark, a sophomore from Pittsburgh Central Catholic is the top seed at states with a time of 4:29.36.
Griffin Messenlehner, a sophomore, took a gold medal in the 100-yard backstroke at districts with a time of :52.62, the 23rd fastest time in the state. Senior Andrew Taylor won gold at districts by posting a time of :47.93 in the 100-yard freestyle event, which leaves him 25th in the state heading into this week’s competition.
The three relay teams competing for state medals are in the 400-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay. The swimmers for those events have not been announced. Emmaus is the number-four seed in the 400-freestyle relay and the seventh seed in the 200-freestyle event. In the 200-medley relay, Emmaus is seeded 12th.
Emmaus did not have any divers qualify for states and did not have any members of the girls team qualify for positions. The championship gets underway Wednesday at Bucknell University in Lewisburg with competitors from the 2A classification competing and the 3A competition will be held Friday and Saturday at the Kinney Natatorium.
