The competition in the PIAA Class 2A swimming and diving championships got underway Wednesday at Bucknell University and continues Thursday. Salisbury will be represented by two freshmen swimmers, who will each compete in two events.
Both Olivia Amorim and Phoebe Ballek qualified for the 500-yard freestyle event with their performances at the District 11 championships earlier this month. Amorim finished third in the event with a time of 5:25.19 at districts, which were held at Parkland High School. Ballek finished in fourth place :03.07 behind her teammate. When compared to times from across the commonwealth, Amorim came in seeded 14th and Ballek is 26th.
Amorim is also qualified in the 200-yard IM after winning gold at districts with a time of 2:16.01, nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. At states, Amorim will be the number-15 seed in the event.
For her second event, Ballek will compete in the 200-yard freestyle with the 23rd-best time from across Pennsylvania. At districts, Ballek finished second with a time of 1:59.99.
