PennDOT announces virtual display for Indian Creek Road Bridge

Virtual plans on display to March 16

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation invites the public to a virtual plans display for a project to replace the Indian Creek Road Bridge over Leibert Creek in Upper Milford Township.

The digital version of the information will be available online until March 16.

According to a news release dated Feb. 17, the purpose of the project is to address structural deficiencies of the bridge and provide continued safe and efficient access on Indian Creek Road over Leibert Creek.

The bridge was built in 1973.

The existing dual steel pipe arch will be replaced with a precast reinforced box culvert, with a slightly widened typical section to allow for a minimal shoulder across the structure.

The existing typical section of the roadway consists of two 10-foot travel lanes with, at most, 18-inch shoulders.

The proposed new section will include two 10-foot lanes and 2-foot shoulders. Approach paving and new guide rail will be placed on each end of the proposed structure.

The bridge will close to all traffic during construction and work is anticipated to take approximately four months.

The proposed 6.4 mile detour route will utilize Pennsylvania Route 29, Lower Macungie Road and Brookside Road.

Access to driveways within the project limits will be maintained at all times during construction.

Work is expected to take place during the 2025 construction season, however, all schedules are subject to change.

The roadway is posted with a 35-mph speed limit and has an average daily traffic volume of 2,143 vehicles, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT invites community members to provide public input for the project.

The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and solicit public input, questions, or concerns.

The display is also an opportunity for the public to review and comment on the project’s potential effect upon cultural resources pursuant to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The project documents can be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested.
